This year marks the 13th anniversary of Attwood Marshall Lawyers proudly sponsoring the Gold Coast Turf Club’s Caulfield Cup Race Day at Aquis Park, although they have held a race day for over 20 years.
The Caulfield Cup Raceday has become a highlight on the local racing calendar, combining the best of Melbourne’s Spring Carnival with the energy and style of the Gold Coast. The race day has been boosted by the running of the $20M Everest at Royal Randwick and has become a huge drawcard for racegoers.
Guests at the Caulfield Cup/Everest Race Day will enjoy eight local races at the recently upgraded Gold Coast Turf Club track and facilities, while keeping a close eye on interstate races streaming live from Melbourne and Sydney.

Jeff served as a Board Member of the Gold Coast Turf Club from 2009 to 2014 and remains a strong advocate for the Club’s continued growth and success.
The Caulfield Cup: context and history
Caufield Cup Day is one of the highlights of the Melbourne Spring Carnival and is traditionally the main lead up race for the famous Melbourne Cup which will is held on the 1st Tuesday in November, 2 weeks after the Caufield Cup. Although modern training techniques have changed with the Cox Plate (2040m) which runs next Saturday, the Caufield Cup remains one of the best form indicators for the Melbourne Cup.
First run in 1879 over 2400 metres, a traditional distance for three-year-old Derby races, the Caulfield Cup remains a critical stepping stone for stayers aiming for the Cups double. It is one of the best indicators of potential Melbourne Cup form. With a $5 million purse, the Group 1 race is the most lucrative turf event at that distance, with prestige and popularity second only to the Melbourne Cup itself. While the field is often dominated by overseas horses, there is a strong cohort of locally bred runners in contention. Without A Fight is the most recent winner of the Cups double in 2023, ridden by champion jockey Mark Zahra.
Jeff Garrett’s Caulfield Cup 2025 tips
According to Legal Practice Director, Jeff Garrett, the $2.80 favourite this year is Tony and Calvin McEvoy-trained “Half Yours,” who impressed with a four-length win in the Caloundra Cup. Other strong local contenders include “Revelare,” winner of the 2500m Archer Stakes, and “Zardozi,” both offering good value. Overseas runners in the mix are “Vauban” ($12) and the English-trained “Meydaan” ($9), who has performed well in the UK.
Jeff believes the Caulfield Cup is well within the grasp of the McEvoys, with his standout tip to win the Cup being “Half Yours.” For trifecta bets, where you predict the first three finishers in any order. he would include or ‘box’ “Revelare,” “Zardozi,” “Meydaan,” “Vauban,” and “Absurde” ($31). The Caulfield Cup trifecta always seems to pay a handsome dividend.
The Everest 2025 Sydney
Caufield Cup Race Day now runs alongside the Everest at Royal Randwick, a 1200m sprint with a total prize pool of $20 million.
Jeff thinks the key runners to watch include David Hayes-trained “Ka Ying Rising” from Hong Kong ($1.95 favourite) and “War Machine” ($10), trained by David’s sons at Lindsay Park. Other notable sprinters are “Jimmy Star” ($12), “Jolie Star” ($7), and “Lady Shenandoah” ($15).
In a wide-open race, Jeff’s tip is to quinella (that is, to bet on them finishing first and second in any order) the Hayes horses “Ka Ying Rising” and “War Machine,” boxing them for the first two legs of a trifecta with the third leg the field.
