Attwood Marshall Lawyers are pleased to welcome back experienced Wills & Estates Lawyer and Associate, Larisa Kapur, to the firm from extended maternity leave.

Welcome back Larisa

Attwood Marshall Lawyers is pleased to announce the return of estate planning solicitor Larisa Kapur, after she took a step away for maternity leave and to raise her children. Larisa works in the firm’s growing Wills and Estates team and since her return has been promoted to Associate.

Larisa first joined Attwood Marshall Lawyers in 2014, after graduating from Bond University with a Juris Doctor in Law with Honours. She was admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland in 2013.

In addition to her legal degree, she also has a psychology degree and has trained as a grief and loss counsellor, a background that serves her well as she helps clients who are often going through some of the most difficult and emotionally charged times of their life.

Larisa rejoins the Wills and Estates team, which is led by partner Angela Harry during an exceptional period of growth. The team has nearly tripled in size in her absence, growing from five lawyers in 2018 to a team of 13 today, with recruitment underway for more staff.

“It is wonderful to have Larisa return to the Wills & Estates estate planning team at our busy Robina Town Centre office. Larisa is a 10 year post admission experienced estate planning lawyer Associate and brings the benefit of that experience to the team and our clients. She has been sorely missed while on maternity leave and it is a welcome return to the fold, not to mention her positive energy and effervescent personality. We are all very happy to have her back in the office,” said Angela Harry.

Larisa solely practices in estate planning and preparing specialised Wills and enduring powers of attorney and guardian documents. She has a particular interest in testamentary trusts and special disability trusts for families with children who have additional needs.

As a natural public speaker and enthusiastic lawyer that takes the time to connect with the most vulnerable members of our society, Larisa is looking forward to throwing herself into the many community outreach programs that the Wills and Estates team participate in throughout the year, including community Wills Days.

As part of these initiatives, our skilled solicitors gift their time to draft Wills for individuals in return for a donation that supports charities including the Salvation Army, Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service, Currumbin Wildlife Hospital and Queensland Animal Welfare League.

Larisa also represents the firm at local Seniors Expos bringing a vibrant energy to the occasion and basking in the opportunity to connect with the community.

Before going on leave, Larisa was instrumental in helping set up Attwood Marshall Lawyers’ partnership with Feros Care, a vital not-for-profit that provides aged care and disability support services. Attwood Marshall Lawyers now delivers monthly “Ask a Lawyer” virtual sessions, where Feros Care clients can speak directly to one of our lawyers about a legal topic that concerns them or which they have a strong interest in.

Larisa enjoys spreading awareness of how important estate planning is, and she says the partnership with Feros Care was a no brainer, tapping into the shared values of both organisations and the fact Feros Care’s offices are based in the same building as Attwood Marshall Lawyers’ headquarters in the Strand, at Coolangatta.

“I have always had an interest with helping the elderly with estate planning as well as transitioning to aged care,” she says, adding that she is particularly passionate about issues around elder abuse, which includes not only physical or psychological abuse but also financial abuse.

Her goal is to make the legal process appear to clients as simple and straightforward as possible, and to ensure clients are aware of why each step is being taken. She ensures her clients know that she is there to support them throughout their whole legal journey, putting them at ease and giving them confidence.

“I enjoy working with people, especially if they’re in need of help understanding technical documents and the legal process,” she says. “I want to be a lawyer that is approachable, and I pride myself on my empathy and social skills.”
