Have you checked the ASIC register to see if your details are correct?

The Australian Securities and Investments Commission “ASIC” have now taken over the business registrations and the recording of business details.

Before 28 May 2012, the Offices of Fair Trading in each state dealt with business registrations and records separately . These systems have now been consolidated into one Australia wide register with ASIC, the same body who deals with company registrations and records .

This system lessons the cost to business owners and the burden of updating details on various registers it offers one place for registration and renewal. Business owners need not do anything to use the new system, your details are automatically carried over.

If there was more than one business with a particular name the same name still exists but the location of the business in mentioned to avoid confusion. If a business owner has duplicate businesses with the same name they can cancel these duplicates and update the remaining record.
