Alina Derevyanko – Media Advisor / Lawyer
Attwood Marshall Lawyers is one of the few firms with an in-house Media Advisor. Alina Derevyanko holds a Bachelor of Journalism, Bachelor of Laws, Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (2019) and has commenced a Masters in Applied Law. She was admitted as Lawyer of the Supreme Court of Queensland in August 2019.
Alina provides guidance to lawyers and clients on how to manage media inquiries. She is a media liaison between the firm’s legal spokespeople and journalists. She can advise high profile and media sensitive clients on how to cope with media crisis events.
Prior to joining Attwood Marshall Lawyers in 2018, Alina was a graded print news journalist at News Corp for over five years. She covered court, crime, politics and human interest rounds. Alina’s bylines have appeared in Qld and NSW regional papers, Gold Coast Bulletin, Courier Mail, Daily Telegraph and UK Sun. She has freelanced for Daily Mail Online and Bauer Media Group and has completed Nine News and Australian Associated Press internships. She won the 2017 Australian Regional Media Reporter of the Year Award for an investigative series into a cancer cluster.
Alina has an interest in public policy. She won the 2016 Australian Regional Media Collaboration & Partnerships Award for community engagement, for media campaigns which achieved $540m in funding for The Tweed Hospital, and the re-opening of the birthing unit at Murwillumbah Hospital.
Prior to journalism, Alina worked at a Gold Coast public relations firm with national sporting and commercial clients.
Alina migrated to Australia from Russia and speaks fluent Russian.
