From the Legal Practice Director’s desk: 2018 a year to celebrate, 2019 even bigger!

This year has been an exciting one for Attwood Marshall Lawyers with plans for 2019 already underway to expand our range of legal services.

In 2018 – our 72nd year of operation – our dedicated lawyers, graduates, paralegals, and administrative staff, helped and changed the lives of thousands of clients.

We delivered exceptional results, using leading legal practice management technology and a belief in an empathetic supportive culture we proudly share with clients.

Attwood Marshall Lawyers’ renowned intent is to help people, and this is the difference which keeps our clients as part of our family in the long term.

Whichever legal team has been able to help you this year with your matter, we wish to thank you for your continued trust and support while we helped you in 2018.

Next year we have plans to expand our brand, Brisbane office, all our legal departments, and to continue to nurture a culture of professional and ethical excellence within our firm.

We hope to serve you again in the future and to share with you some of our milestones and achievements in 2018:

Personal Injuries Senior Associate Jeremy Roche appointed as Partner

Jeremy Roche is a Queensland Law Society Accredited Specialist in Personal Injuries Law, who excels in complex personal injury cases.

He helps people suffering catastrophic injuries, works closely with the families grieving for a loved one, and consistently delivers unbeatable results in court and negotiations.

His empathy, diligence and formidable work ethic have built him a renowned reputation in compensation law.

We were proud to announce him as Partner in October and due recognition for his hard work and expertise. He joins Angela Harry (Wills and Estates) and Barry van Heeden (Property and Commercial), all respected and well known senior lawyers in their fields.

Senior Paralegals/Graduates Admitted as Lawyers

Two highly experienced paralegals graduated with law degrees and completed further qualifications and training at Attwood Marshall, to be admitted as lawyers.

Emily Greenup (FamilyLaw &Wills and Estates) and April Kennedy (Estate Administration & Estate Litigation), with 20 years’experience between them, add to our expertise in their respective areas. April started with the firm as an office junior 10 years ago and it is a credit to her tenacity and drive to complete her law degree while working full time.

Senior Paralegals Graduate with Bachelor of Laws

Two senior paralegals graduated with Bachelor of Law degrees while working full-time. Both expect to be admitted as lawyers in 2019.

Rhiannon Garrett (Personal Injury) and Andi McGarry (Property and Commercial) graduated from Southern Cross University and University of South East Queensland, respectively. Rhiannon is my eldest daughter and it was a proud moment for Rhonda and I to see her graduate in Law.

Word Processing Manager Jan Cousens Celebrates 30 years

Word Processing Manager Jan Cousens has seen a lot of change at the firm over the past 30 years! When Jan started with us in 1988 (after working in a medical practice), we were still at the forefront of technology with a Magcard and central dictation system. The lawyers would dictate their work in their office and a tape would pop up in the ‘WP room’ down the hall for the typists to do their work. It is a far cry from the digital systems we have in place now – you can dictate from your smartphone anywhere and the digital file goes to Jan to type. Even with the advancement of voice recognition software, which many of our lawyers use, it is still nice to have a good old-fashioned typist who can understand complex medico-legal terminology. Congratulations Jan!

New lawyer, paralegal and media staff welcomed

Attwood Marshall Lawyers welcomed experienced personal injuries lawyer Lisa Roberston to the firm.

Lisa Robertson is an astute compensation solicitor in NSW, bringing a wealth of experience in workers compensation claims, car accident personal injury claims, occupiers liability claims,  negotiation and settlements. Lisa is accredited in NSW with WIRO and specialises in workers compensation damages claims.

The firm also welcomed experienced personal injuries senior paralegal Sue Davidson, property and commercial department manager Emily Spinks, and media advisor/law graduate, Alina Derevyanko.

QA Systems highlight our expertise

In November, Attwood Marshall Lawyers transitioned to SAI GLOBAL ISO 9001:2015 Quality management systems for Legal Practice (from the LAW 9000 model).

SAI is the world’s leading management system standard, adopted in virtually all industries, globally.  This is a rigorous examination of our systems and culture and we are pleased we passed the test.

We remain one of the few legal practices in the country to use this world-leading technology and quality assurance system. This helps us provide a quality legal service to our clients.

In May, Attwood Marshall Lawyers Property and Commercial Department were certified, competent and proficient in using PEXA, electronic conveyancing platform in NSW and QLD.
