Attwood Marshall Lawyers are proud to participate in the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Wills Days on Monday 22nd March and Wednesday 24th March 2021.
The Important Work of Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service has been saving lives since 1975. The service is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It costs approximately $40 million each year to keep the helicopters and crews ready to respond when needed. Approximately $12 million of that cost is raised through sponsorships, volunteers, support group activities, events and partnerships with the community.
To support the critical work they do, our Wills and Estates lawyers donate their time to help draft Wills during Wills Week, with 100% of each booking fee being donated to the Westpac Life Saver Helicopter Service.
On Monday 22nd March and Wednesday 24th March, Attwood Marshall Lawyers will be hosting Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Wills Days at our Kingscliff and Coolangatta offices, where we have booked 73 Wills to be drafted with our experienced estate planning lawyers.
Wills Week provides a great opportunity to promote the importance of people having a properly drafted and current Will, whilst also helping generate much needed income for Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Service.

Wills Weeks 2021
As we prepare for Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter Wills Days, our lawyers have been busy finalising Wills from another successful Wills Day which took place at our Coolangatta office on Monday 8th March 2021 supporting Currumbin Wildlife Hospital Foundation.
Community Wills Days present a wonderful opportunity to connect with the community, and help people plan, protect and preserve their wishes through drafting a professional and legally binding Will, whilst at the same time supporting essential charities and organisations that perform paramount work saving lives.
As part of Wills Week, people can obtain information regarding ‘Gifts of a Bequest’. The act of providing for a charity in your Will is often overlooked. However, it performs a very important function in providing critical financial assistance to charities. We encourage people to consider donating to a worthy charity and placing this as a bequest in their Will. People are able to establish a bequest during Wills Week when they come in to have their Will completed by one of our experienced team.
Why is it important to have a professionally drafted Will?
In a survey conducted by finder.com.au, it was revealed that 9.9 million Australians do not have a Will. Many more people don’t have an up-to-date Enduring Power of Attorney (EPOA) to protect their wishes in the event they lose mental capacity and need someone to step in and take care of them and their affairs. In Queensland, EPOA’s were updated by new legislation on the 30th November 2020, so it is important to make sure you update these documents.
Not having a valid Will can be both financially and emotionally exhausting for the loved ones you leave behind after you die. No matter how large or small your estate may be, everyone over the age of 18 should have an up-to-date Will to ensure your assets end up in the hands of those you want to benefit.
Some of the main reasons to have a Will:
- You decide how your estate will be distributed and who will benefit;
- A Will makes it easier for your spouse or children to make arrangements for your funeral and to honour your wishes;
- Appoint your Executors: someone you trust to uphold your wishes and properly administer your estate;
- Reduce the risk of disputes between the loved ones you leave behind;
- Appoint guardians for infant children or dependants to avoid disputes;
- Avoid expensive estate administration processes where there is no Will;
- Mitigate the risk of someone contesting your estate after you are gone;
- Establish a gift or donation to a deserving charity.
