FAQs
Abuse claims are made against the individual, group, entity, or institution that perpetrated the abuse. Abuse claims are commonly made against individuals (e.g. a priest, employer, parent, relative, foster parent, family member, schoolteacher, sports coach, or other member of the public) and/or the entity or institution they represented.
Abuse claims can be made against such institutions as:
- Churches and other religious institutions
- The Australian Defence Force (ADF) – Army, Navy, RAAF
- Schools and Universities
- Childcare centres and kindergartens
- Boys homes
- Government departments
- Orphanages
- Detention centres
- Prisons
- Other companies and institutions
All states and territories in Australia have removed time limits for child sex abuse cases. Some states have also extended this to other forms of abuse.
It does not matter how long ago your abuse happened – victims of child sexual abuse or historical abuse can bring a historical abuse claim for compensation whenever they are ready to do so.
