Lawyers continue to sponsor Silk Stocking race in winter carnival

News

The Queensland thoroughbred racing winter carnival comes to the Gold Coast tomorrow with a bumper 9 race card including the Gold Coast Guineas, Ken Russell Memorial Classic and the listed Silk Stocking race for fillies and mares.

Attwood Marshall Lawyers have been a long term corporate sponsor of the Gold Coast Turf Club (Aquis Park) and have a 3 year sponsorship agreement in relation to the Silk Stocking. The impact of COVID-19 has affected the racing industry and particularly sponsors and patrons who would normally attend the Turf Club to enjoy the winter carnival racing. Despite the fact that the partners and selected clients of Attwood Marshall Lawyers will not be able to watch their sponsored race from the spectacular setting of the Crystal Lounge, Legal Practice Director Jeff Garrett says that the firm is still happy to sponsor this very important race for racehorse owners and breeders.

“We really enjoy sponsoring the Silk Stocking because of its importance to the racing and breeding industry. The fact that you can have a filly or mare obtain the elusive ‘black type’ by winning or running a place in this race hits home its importance to the industry. It’s no surprise that the big racing stables from the southern states always send good horses for this race. The past winners of the race give you an indication of how highly sought after this race is in the industry.”

The field for tomorrow’s race is a cracker with horses from the powerful Godolphin, Chris Waller, Peter and Paul Snowden and the Maher Eustace stables. The likes of Multaja and Resin (James Cummings), Fiesta (Chris Waller), Jen Rules (Snowdens) provide you with an indication of the depth of the race.  Local hopes look to be Manaya (Michael Costa), Niedorp (Tony Gollan) and the Nicconi filly Tardis (Toby Edmonds).  The big field of 16 with 5 emergencies will be a fitting finish to the race card tomorrow at Aquis Park and is sure to attract plenty of interest from punters and industry participants alike.
