As a law firm deeply committed to advocating for justice and championing the rights of the injured, we are proud to announce the expansion of our Compensation Law team with the addition of two key staff members.

For over 75 years, we have been at the forefront of this vital area of law, dedicated to ensuring that individuals receive the treatment and compensation they rightfully deserve after suffering an injury or illness which is workplace related or due to an accident or incident caused by the negligence of another. We have always acted for injured people on a ‘no win, no fee’ basis, which gives all clients access to the justice system and avoids them having to pay for legal fees up front and the out-of-pocket expenses for expert’s reports for their case. Legal costs are beyond the reach of most people, and we strongly believe this ‘no win, no fee’ service is a great way for injured people to obtain the compensation they deserve.

With a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the complexities of compensation claims, we are pleased to welcome experienced senior paralegal Tyra Hall and dedicated compensation lawyer Yasmine Chalvatzis to the firm.

Tyra has stepped into the Compensation Law Department Manager position, bringing with her nearly a decade of invaluable experience in the legal industry and a strong background in personal injury claims and compensation law. Tyra will manage the client-lawyer relationship along with overseeing the team’s workload to make sure that all clients receive exceptional service.

Yasmine joins the firm as an experienced Personal Injury Lawyer. Yasmine has predominately worked in workers’ compensation claims, public liability claims and motor vehicle accident claims throughout her career and was drawn to the legal industry because she genuinely wanted to help injured people and make a difference to their lives.

Tyra and Yasmine join Attwood Marshall Lawyers’ Compensation Law team, led by Partner and QLD Law Society Accredited Specialist in Personal Injury Law Jeremy Roche. They will be based on the border of Queensland and New South Wales at our Coolangatta office but can be available for appointments at any of our office locations including Robina Town Centre, Southport, Kingscliff, Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.

The addition of a new department manager and lawyer brings the compensation law team’s headcount to eight, including our legal practice director Jeff Garrett who has significant experience in the personal injury field and celebrates 43 years with Attwood Marshall Lawyers this year.

Compensation Law department snapshot

Attwood Marshall Lawyers specialises in providing dedicated support to individuals navigating a range of challenging legal situations, from motor vehicle accidents, workers’ compensation claims, public liability injuries, total and permanent disability and superannuation claims, to institutional abuse cases.

Despite advancements in legislation and the evolution of compensation schemes around Australia, the reality remains stark: injured workers, motorists, and other eligible individuals continue to struggle to navigate these systems effectively. Far too often, they are met with obstacles and delays that hinder their access to crucial rehabilitation support and compensation, further delaying their recovery from their injury or illness. The standard response of employers or WorkCover and other insurance companies generally is to reject or deny liability for legitimate claims in circumstances where they have no reasonable grounds to do so. Many injured clients and their families don’t know who to turn to when this happens and consider walking away from the claim, which is exactly the outcome that WorkCover or the insurance company wants!

At Attwood Marshall Lawyers, we refuse to accept the decisions of WorkCover and the insurance companies and fight for our clients’ rights to compensation and treatment. Time and again, we have pursued our clients’ claims despite the rejection and have obtained a favourable outcome for the claim. Our commitment to our clients and our belief in social justice compels us to expand our efforts in Compensation Law. We recognise the ongoing challenges faced by the injured and are driven by our passion to help and change people’s lives for the better.

Success stories

With a strong track record of success, our team is proud of their clients’ victories. Over this past year, our team has secured numerous significant wins, with many cases resulting in compensation exceeding the $1 million mark.

For example:

  • We acted on multiple cases where mining workers were seriously injured due to an unsafe system of work, contributed to by both their employer and the mine itself. Mining is a dangerous industry and workers often suffer lifelong debilitating injuries (if not death) when safe procedures are not adhered to. We resolved these cases for well in excess of $1 million in compensation, as well as settling claims for the grieving families left behind in cases of mining fatalities and workplace deaths.
  • We acted in medical negligence cases whereby both the surgeon and the hospital were liable in negligence for causing serious injury and loss for providing unsafe medical treatment to our clients, leading to serious injury and considerable loss.  As these cases often involved permanent injury, incapacity for work, pain and suffering, and various future treatment requirements, we resolved claims up to, and in excess of, $1 million in compensation.
  • We acted in motor vehicle compensation claims where our clients suffered catastrophic injuries as a result of the negligent driving of another. These claims often involve NIIISQ or NDIS, such is the severity of their injuries and debilitation. In claims comprising damages for general damages (pain and suffering), past and future income loss, past and future treatment costs, and past and future care and assistance (paid and unpaid), we acted for numerous severely injured claimants with compensations well north of $1 million.

Compensation law partner Jeremy Roche is recognised as a specialist in severe and catastrophic injury claims (brain damage, spinal cord injury, tetraplegia, quadriplegia, amputation, severe illness, multiple orthopaedic injuries, etc) and our compensation law department is proud to have achieved millions of dollars’ worth of compensation and the best treatment available for our deserving clients and their families each year.
