We are excited to announce the expansion of our Brisbane office at Level 27 Santos Place, 32 Turbot Street, Brisbane. The expansion will help the firm in its mission to support the growing Brisbane community with all their legal needs, explains Attwood Marshall Lawyers Legal Practice Director, Jeff Garrett.

Brisbane’s future is bright

With Queensland’s population continuing to grow at a staggering rate, it is expected that the state will see a further 16 per cent growth by the time the Olympic Games kicks off in Brisbane in 2032.

As the third most populated city in Australia, Brisbane currently boasts a population of 2.75 million.

Brisbane’s appeal comes as no surprise, with its dynamic neighbourhoods, diverse housing, progressive business environment, convenient travel options, and array of attractions bringing both locals and tourists to the city.

Greater Brisbane is anticipating one of the fastest growth rates compared to any other Queensland location in the years to come, which follows the historic growth rates seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Although we have had a Brisbane presence for many years, it has mainly been serviced on an as needed basis. From 1st February 2023, we will have a dedicated full-time office which will be occupied by our lawyers and support staff. The office will also serve to facilitate our existing litigation and court work carried out in the Brisbane Supreme Court, Family Court, and Federal Courts. Our Brisbane clients and referrers will have the convenience of attending our state-of-the-art office which has lovely views over the City and Brisbane River.

Strong ties to the City

Attwood Marshall Lawyers are proud of its long history supporting the Brisbane community. Many of our lawyers (including 3 out of 4 of the firm’s Partners) grew up in Brisbane and have strong ties to the local community, business network, and legal industry.

As the city continues to grow, so does the demand for quality legal services across all areas of law. With its growing population and proximity to the Courts, there’s no better time to bolster our service in the city and welcome new clients.

We will be expanding our suite at Level 27, Santos Place, Turbot Street, Brisbane, which will provide for 3 additional professionals to work from our modern, spacious Brisbane office overlooking the river.

Alongside our office expansion, we are also excited to announce that this year we will be hosting our first-ever Brisbane-based Salvation Army Community Wills Day. Attwood Marshall Lawyers have been participating in Community Wills Days for almost two decades across the Gold Coast and Northern New South Wales, supporting hard-working charities and helping the community get their most basic estate planning documents in place.

Adding Brisbane to our ongoing community service initiatives will allow us to help Brisbane residents get their most basic legal documents in order, all while supporting vital charities and the important work they do.

The first Salvation Army Community Wills Day in Brisbane will take place on Friday 23rd June 2023.

Getting to know some of our Brisbane Locals

Jeff Garrett – Legal Practice Director & 5th Generation Brisbane Born and Bred

Jeff traces his maternal family history back to Henry Denby, who was born in Newstead House in 1852. He grew up in Wynnum and Gumdale before moving to Southport on the Gold Coast when he was a teenager. He played rugby league for Wynnum Manly and went to Wynnum North High School. He spent a lot of time on North Stradbroke Island with his family and his grandfather retired to Amity Point. His younger brothers live on the island in Amity and Jeff continues to holiday on Stradbroke with his family and grandchildren.

Jeff has many friends and family who live in Brisbane and knows the area well. He has acted for many Brisbane based clients over his 42 years at Attwood Marshall Lawyers, where he started as an articled law clerk to former firm principal Bob Marshall at the Coolangatta office in 1981. Jeff studied law in Brisbane and completed the Bar Practice course at Queensland University of Technology.

Jeff has been involved in thousands of cases in the Brisbane courts over the years and is very familiar with the legal fraternity in Brisbane with most of his cases being fought against the larger Brisbane legal firms and briefing barristers at the Brisbane Bar.

Jeff continues to act for clients in Brisbane and regularly appears in and runs cases in the Brisbane Courts and tribunals, although his active file load has reduced in recent years so that he can concentrate on training and managing the firm. He will be regularly manning the Brisbane office to see clients and meet with referrers from our large professional network.
